Android TV & Google Cast
Android TV and Google Cast are two related technologies developed by Google for the television and streaming media market. Here's an explanation of each:
Android TV is a smart TV platform developed by Google. It is designed to provide a user-friendly interface and access to a wide range of apps and streaming services directly on televisions. Android TV devices can be built into TVs or come in all kinds of forms, such as standalone set-top boxes or streaming sticks.
Google Cast on the other hand is a technology that enables users to wirelessly stream or cast media content from their smartphones, tablets or computers to a TV screen. Google Cast is by default integrated in all Smart TVs powered by Android TV, but it is also embedded in other TVs, soundbars and media devices that are not based on the Android TV platform.
In summary, Android TV is an operating system for smart TVs that offers an app ecosystem and various features, while Google Cast is a technology for wirelessly streaming or casting content from mobile devices or computers to a TV screen.
Android TV and Google Cast Questions
Which TVs and devices work?
All TVs and devices with Android TV, Google TV or Chromecast built-in, for example Sony, TCL, Hisense and Vizio TVs, Android TV boxes and the Nvidia Shield. For a Chromecast stick, use Video & TV Cast for Chromecast.
Do I need to install anything on my TV?
No. Chromecast built-in on the TV plays the video.
Can I cast from iPhone and Android?
Yes. Video & TV Cast for Google Cast is available for iPhone and iPad on the App Store and for Android phones and tablets on Google Play.
Why does the app not find my TV?
Make sure the TV is on and on the same Wi-Fi as your phone. Finding it can take a few minutes. If it still does not show up, restart your phone, the TV and the Wi-Fi router.
My Android TV still does not show up. What else can I try?
On the TV, open Settings and turn off Restricted Profile, set Date & Time to automatic, and install the latest Android TV update. Then open Google Play on the TV and update the app Chromecast built-in.
What is the difference between the Chromecast and the Google Cast edition?
Both use Google Cast. The Chromecast edition is made for Chromecast sticks. The Google Cast edition is made for TVs and boxes with Android TV, Google TV or Chromecast built-in.
Why is there no video link below the browser?
Start the video in the browser first. Some websites only load the video file when it plays. Then the video link shows up and you can tap it to cast.
Can I cast Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+?
No. These services protect their videos with DRM, so no casting app can send them. Use the Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+ app on your TV instead.
Can I cast my own videos and photos?
Yes. Video & TV Cast also sends videos and photos from your phone or tablet to the TV. The free version casts some of your own media, Premium makes it unlimited.
Is Video & TV Cast for Google Cast free?
The app is free to download and shows ads. Premium features like the Ad-Blocker and unlimited own media are one-time purchases. There is no subscription.
